Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that allows bloggers to share which books we are most anticipating.

This week I am waiting on Between the Notes by Sharon Huss Roat (June 16, 2015)

Summary from GoodReads

When Ivy Emerson’s family loses their house—complete with her beloved piano—the fear of what’s to come seizes her like a bad case of stage fright. Only this isn’t one of her single, terrifying performances. It’s her life.

And it isn’t pretty.

Ivy is forced to move with her family out of their affluent neighborhood to Lakeside, also known as “the wrong side of the tracks.” Hiding the truth from her friends—and the cute new guy in school, who may have secrets of his own—seems like a good idea at first. But when a bad boy next door threatens to ruin everything, Ivy’s carefully crafted lies begin to unravel . . . and there is no way to stop them.

As things get to the breaking point, Ivy turns to her music, some unlikely new friends, and the trusting heart of her disabled little brother. She may be surprised that not everyone is who she thought they were . . . including herself.

Debut author Sharon Huss Roat crafts a charming and timely story of what happens when life as you know it flips completely upside down.

Why I'm Waiting

This sounds like an amazing story, the difference between who you really are versus the perception of you.  Are Ivy's friends her friends because of who she is or are they just her friends because she's rich?  I also love the idea of her music, I grew up playing the piano, lessons for my 8th birthday were pretty much the best gift I ever got from my parents.  Playing an instrument can be a very cathartic experience, it's sort of like getting lost in a good book, it takes you to another world where your problems slip away and once your surface the world seems like a better place.  I'm excited for a book that has that aspect to it, it's not something that you see often in literature.

  1. I like the idea that it tackles you vs the perception of you. Maybe also how you perceive yourself vs how others see you. Hope you enjoy it!
